We are proud to announce that our Volunteers of the Month for October and November are Anisha and Fatima!
We wouldn’t dream of splitting this dynamic duo up! They volunteer as a team with our Concierge and Comfort Cart Programs weekly at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare’s Tayfour Campus, helping palliative patients in the T2B Supportive Care Unit – Stephanie and Barry Zekelman Wing. Anisha began volunteering with our organization at the beginning of the year. She enjoyed it so much she mentioned it to a friend who decided to also get involved! Despite their youth these young women have a lot of heart and compassion. They accel at making the patients and their families days bright. This past summer they even completed a co-op with T2B helping at the office and with our fundraising events. Furthermore, each week they both act a hospital liaison volunteers. They check supplies, tidy up, communicate with fellow volunteers and liaison between the hospital and the office.
When asked what they loved about volunteering Anisha said, “My favorite part of volunteering is getting to know the patients and their families. I've heard plenty of amazing and inspiring stories. Even though I only see them once a week, I always remember the small moments we have during our interactions. The laughs we share as we become more familiar with each other mean a lot to me. I often have patients tell me that they're glad to have somebody to chat with, or a family member tell us how grateful they are for what we do. Everyone is always so sweet, appreciative, and kind despite the fact that they are probably going through a rough time. Even if it's only a little, I'm glad I can be there for them. I consider it the most rewarding part of volunteering.”
Fatima also enjoys the small moments and the difference they can make in a person’s day. She said, “My favourite part about volunteering is the small moment where I can make someone smile whether it be a family member or a patient. What families are going through at this time is incredibly hard especially emotionally. I have gotten close to a lot of family members and have become some kind of constant in their life. They feel comfortable talking about their feelings and what goes on in their lives and letting out the stress and emotions they have built up. Remembering their favourite chips or drinks seems like a small thing, but the smile they have on their face not because of the item itself, but for someone to just remember is one of the purest things. I like being there for other people and helping them in anyway I can. I genuinely think that the programs T2B provides is something that benefits patients and their families. We can see the impact we leave on people and how much our support means to them.”
We don’t know what we would do without these wonderful, helpful and positive ladies!
Anisha and Fatima, we are blessed that you choose T2B as a cause worthy of volunteering your time for! Thank you for all you do for those in our community!
