T2B “From Rooms to Wings” Unit Opening
As of Monday September 30th, 2013 palliative care patients and their families have a new home in Windsor Essex. The new Stephanie and Barry Zekelman Wing within the T2B Supportive Care Unit at the Dr. Y. Emara Centre for Healthy Aging and Mobility, located at the Tayfour Campus has been opened to service patients in our community. On Friday September 27th, 2013 T2B privately opened the 20 bed unit and once again brought the 5 star hotel feel to the hospital environment. The unit has been redone from top to bottom starting with a family kitchen, a family lounge, a modern reception and nurses station, spacious hallways with inspirational murals, stunning wood flooring, woodwork within the patient rooms, warm wallpaper and paint colours. T2B will also be extending their ongoing programs into the unit which are: the Comfort Food Cart, Comfort Blanket, Music Therapy and Concierge Program.
This project is the “From Rooms to Wings” capital campaign which was launched in October 2012. Construction began in April of 2013 and we are ecstatic that the unit has been completed in record time. The campaign is a $1.4 million dollar pledge in which T2B is still fundraising for. The pledge is the cost of the refurbishment project, which truly has given Windsor Essex a unique state of the art health care facility for palliative patients in the community.
