Transition to Betterness delivers T2B Comfort Care Totes, their newest program, to Windsor Regional Hospital for the Cancer Centre. The Comfort Care Tote Program provides a high quality, custom tote bag for patients diagnosed with cancer, who will undergo chemotherapy treatment in Windsor.
After the inaugural presentation, totes will be distributed to patients by nurses in the Cancer Centre at the onset of their treatment. Just a few of the items within the tote will be;
- A journal, for reflections and appointments
- A blanket and socks, as chemotherapy may cause a cold sensation
- Lip balm and moisturizer, to soothe dry skin and lips
- Food-grade beverage bottle, that keeps beverages warm or cold for hours
- Ginger chews and herbal tea, a natural remedy for nausea
- Application for the Wing Power Fund, a fund for alternative therapies
These are just a few examples of the dozen or so items that will be packed into each of the gender-neutral totes and were all chosen by a team of doctors, nurses and patients.
“I know first hand the effects that cancer treatment can have on your body,” says Michelle Prince, friend of T2B and proud contributor to the Comfort Care Tote. “Unfortunately, there are many side effects that can affect a person’s everyday quality of life, and a newly diagnosed cancer patient may not know what to expect. The T2B Comfort Care Tote will be one of the
first programs to support a patient from the first day of their cancer diagnosis. It’s a tote full of comfort and preparedness that will be a profound asset for a newly diagnosed cancer patient.”
Amber Hunter, Executive Director of T2B comments that their new program, “…comes from a need in our community. According to our friends at the Windsor Cancer Center Foundation, over 1,100 patients start treatment each year in our city. It was through conversations with friends and community partners of T2B, that we discovered there was a need, that’s how this program was born.”
“I am so proud to support T2B’s newest program, The Comfort Care Tote,” says Stephanie Zekelman, Title Sponsor of the Comfort Care Tote program. “Each item was thoughtfully selected by amazing contributors who have been through their own personal journey with cancer and learned what was needed from their experiences. It will be a tote of comfort in a time of need from T2B, the Zekelman Foundation, and so many other generous friends in our community.”
Transition to Betterness is proud to be part of and provide services to the Windsor-Essex community. Thank you to our title sponsors, The Stephanie & Barry Zekelman Foundation, for bringing this program to life through their continued generosity.
We would also like to thank The Polewski Family in memory of Ed Polewski for their contribution as well as the many additional contributors to this program. This will bring comfort and a little ray of sunshine to patients who are starting their chemotherapy treatment.
